The PowerModule™ PM1000 power converter family introduces a new era in the power conversion industry. It features a scalable, modular and flexible design architecture defined by the power pole as a common building block. It is an intelligent and fully integrated power converter that includes a compact package design that yields a very high power density of up to 130 W/in.3 (8 W/cm3).
The power pole architecture includes advanced printed circuit board design with state-of-the-art IGBTs, novel gating control algorithms, and either forced air-cooled or liquid-cooled heat sinks. The integration of the embedded controller, the application specific control board with the modular and scalable standard structure of the power pole, allows for the versatile and flexible design of a plethora of power converters for various power conversion applications in numerous industrial sectors.
The PM1000's expandable configuration, combined with bi-directional functionality, gives this PowerModule power converter family distinct design flexibility. A PM1000 power converter with one embedded controller and one application specific board can include up to eight power poles. Several PM1000 power converters can be configured in series and/or parallel to build higher voltage and power rated converters. The PM1000 can be configured to support any of the following power conversion types: AC-AC, AC-DC, DC-DC, or DC-AC.
All the communications between the PM1000 and the remote devices or controllers are handled through a fiber optic link that provides high noise immunity. A hardware interface board is available to convert fiber optic signals to a serial format. The standard communication protocols for the PM1000 include asynchronous serial and CAN. Other protocols are supported via a PC-104 option.
